REVERED war hero, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube (83) has died.
Dube, a former parliamentarian and cabinet minister succumbed to a kidney ailment on Thursday around 7pm.
An outspoken Zanu PF stalwart, Dube was one of the few who could openly say their thoughts from within the ruling party, with little to no fear of being fired or demoted.
Dube’s passing was confirmed by his son Vusa to the state-controlled daily The Chronicle.
“I can confirm that my father passed on today at 7.34pm at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo following a kidney failure.
“Of course, he has been unwell for the past 10 years, but his death came as a shock to us as a family,” he said.
Considering his role in the liberation struggle, efforts under late leader President Robert Mugabe’s tenure and his support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2017 military-assisted takeover, Dube will likely be declared a national hero.
